FAQ

1. How early should I book my session? I recommend booking a few weeks in advance for regular sessions. If you would like to book a newborn session, please do so as early as possible. I recommend booking a couple of months before your due date. I will tentatively schedule the session for 1 week after your due date, and then move it around as needed when it gets closer to time. Newborn sessions should be done within 2 weeks of your baby’s birth.

2. What should I wear? Is there anything I should avoid wearing? Depending on the setting, I will usually recommend wearing something COLORFUL! I will always recommend against everyone wearing white (ie white shirts & jeans). White reflects light very strongly, and it will pick up color casts from anything close to it. I also recommend avoiding shirts with logos on them.

3. Where are newborn sessions done? Newborn sessions are done in your home within 2 weeks of your baby’s birth.

4. Do you have backdrops & props for newborn sessions? Yes! I bring over my backdrops, blankets, hats, bows, etc and you are welcome to include whatever items you would like as well. Much of what you will see in my newborn gallery is a combination of my props and baby’s special items.

5. What equipment do you use? I shoot with a Canon 50D and usually my 35mm 1.4L lens or my Canon 50mm 1.4 lens.  For indoor sessions I use natural/available light as well as a Speedlight 580EXii flash, an Alien Bee strobe, and a continuous light soft box, depending on the how much/what type of additional lighting I need. I shoot all of my images in RAW and edit in Photoshop CS5.

6. How long will my session last? Regular sessions (family, child, senior) last 1-1.5hrs. Newborn sessions last approximately 3hrs to allow time for feedings, diaper changes, outfit changes, etc.

7. Can I bring an outfit change? Yes! You may bring as many outfit changes you think can realistically be used in the 1-1.5hr session timeframe.

8. What else should I bring to my session? You’re welcome to bring snacks/drinks for your little ones if you think they will need to take a little break. In the colder months, you’re welcome to bring a blanket to keep them warm. Also, baby wipes are great to have on hand for wiping little noses and cleaning little ones’ faces.

9. When will my photos be ready? The first time you’ll see some of your photos will be in a Sneak Peek on the website, usually within 48hrs of your session. A Sneak Peek is blog post with just a few photos & you can share the link with your friends/family while you’re waiting for the rest to be edited. Within 7-10 days your full gallery of images will be ready. It will usually include 20-40 fully edited images.

10. Do you use a professional photo lab? Yes! I use a professional printing lab that caters to wedding and portrait photographers. They offer high quality prints and products and ship your order directly to your address.

11. How long do I have to place a print order? Your gallery will be available for 21 days for your ordering convenience. After that time I will need to archive the photos to make room on my computer & server for other galleries. A $15 reposting fee will be charged for reopening your gallery.

12. Can I purchase digital images? Yes. You may purchase individual digital images or a CD of all the images you see in your gallery. Unedited images, storyboards/collages, and photo cards such as holiday card designs are not for sale and will not be included on your CD.

13. Do you belong to any professional organizations? Yes! I am a proud member of Professional Photographers of America and you can see my photographer profile HERE

14. Have you been featured anywhere fun? (ok, this isn’t really a FAQ but I thought I’d add it here :) ) Yes! In April, my website was featured as the Collages.net Website of the Week! You can see that post HERE

Also in April my photo placed 3rd out of over 500 entries in the I Heart Faces photo challenge! The theme was “Wind” and you can see the top ten photos, including mine, HERE

You can also see my work on the Oolong Bistro website, where I had the opportunity to photograph the restaurant and it’s delicious food!
